Gavin has officially entered the dorky years with the loss of his first tooth! I am a little worried because it seems several more front and center ones are pretty loose too--he may be eating through a straw for the next year or so...

The other day we had the best rain storm! You know the kind where the streets are a river within a matter of minutes because it is POURING so hard? Brent took Jenna and Gavin for a nice summer walk in the rain. They were drenched--and had a blast! I love summer storms!
Let's see...what else...Oh yah, the vacation from hell! A few weeks ago we decided we just couldn't go another year without a trip the Oregon Coast. Of course we thought camping would be the ideal way to save some money and create some super fun memories...let's just say camping for a week with 3 kids under 5 was not the best decision we ever made. As I look back at the pictures, I realize there were a few fun moments--I'm choosing to only remeber those moments-- Roads End...the best place on the coast!

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse--we waited in a 1/2 hour line to go up to the top of the lighthouse and when it was finally our turn, Gavin and Kesley literally layed down at the top of the first flight of stairs and would not go any further. They were so scared I think there little knees just wouldn't work!..mine were a little week too so I didn't tease them too much!
Can't beat a beautiful, sunny day on the Oregon Coast! We had PERFECT weather the entire week, which is unheard of for an Oregon vacation. Fun days at the beach!

One day of a long drive up the coast, we thought we would let Brent take Gavin and Kesley on this cool steam engine train for a 1/2 hour ride of scenic beauty. 2 HOURS later they returned...the lady didn't mention it was 1/2 hour to go about 1 mile down the track--then an nice 1/2 hour stop in the middle of nothing, and you finish with a leisurly 1/2 hour ride back up the same track you just came down. Yah...but the steam engine was pretty cool.
Brents sister, Kim and her fam live in Seattle and were also in town to meet up with his parents. We met up with them for a fun day of kite flying--Oregon always has perfect kite flying conditions!

The Oregon Marine Science Center has the best petting pools ever!
We were sad to leave the coast, but a stop at Mulltanomah Falls always takes the sting away!

In case you didn't know, we have the best dog in the world! Jake never complains...even when he should. This was his spot in the car when we left for Oregon. We would stop and pillow, sleeping bags or food boxes would have fallen on top of him...the guy never made a peep! We love Jake!
Our Gillespie cousins happened to be on the coast the same week as us, so we camped together one night and hit the Tillimook Cheese Factory for some yummy ice-cream! Can't have a trip to the coast without ice-cream and cheese curds!
Brent's parents were also in town and met us at the Newport boat docks...very stinky, but fun!

Hug Point is a really cool spot. It's the old road along the beach that has a point where the road is carved into the rock jetty (or whatever it's called). We were there right at the point where the tide was almost crashing over the rocks and we all got wet trying to get back to our car!

Maria!!!
My long lost favorite cousin! I'm so happy you have a blog, cause otherwise I know we'd only see each other maybe 3 times a decade. I already added you to my blog roll.
Love the vacation photos. I haven't been to the Oregon Coast since I was a little boy, and I don't even remember it. I gotta get back. Love the dog photo. What a trooper.

I love it maria what a fun trip. We went there to Corvallis in April and we did the Newport thing it was very fun. It looks like an adventure.
I love the pictures. haha! I agree with you remembering only the good! I have had to do that too on several vacations...I always hope that my kids remember only the good too instead of the bad parts..which is usually me being impatient and taking the fun out of it all!
