Last weekend we hit two concerts, both fun in their own way. Friday, Brent and I went to the Collin Raye concert (stop laughing... ya take what you can get these days...) Bonnie & John came with us and it was a blast! We sat on blankets and lawn chairs while thunder clouds blocked the sun and made for the perfect evening. Thankfully, Collin mostly stuck to his "greatest hits" which is the only way a fare weather fan like me can enjoy a concert. He played all my favorites, including 'Little Rock' which has the ultimate, cheesiest, strait talking line in country music, "Jesus will forgive, but a Daddy don't forget!" Can you get any deeper than that?
Saturday, the whole family went up to the Homestead for a little free concert on the grass. We spread our blanket and listened to two bands--well, can't really call them "bands", more like, husband and wife "duo's", play. Beautiful setting, laughable lyrics and a whole lot of fun. Collin Raye had some stiff competition for the corniest lyric contest. Could you keep a straight face while singing, "I want to know you. Really KNOW you, but not in a BIBLICAL way?"
Kesley had the best time dancing around in the mosh pit (the grass just in front of the band--I mean, duo) with 3 other kids. Has anyone ever seen a little girl do ballet movements to bluegrass? Totally cute. Wish I'd taken my camera.
Tuesday, I called Liz and we took an impromptu trip up the Uintas. Best way to beat the heat, and we had a GREAT day hiking, eating, throwing rocks, examining dead fish and eating s'mores...and I did take my camera on this trip!
Kids--locked and loaded for the LONG trip! In-car DVD players are the best invention ever!
Ahhhhh, Mirror Lake. We ate lunch and then took off for a 2 hour adventure hiking around the lake!

Kesley REALLY wanted to catch a fish. She kept asking if she could just reach in and scoop a fish up--I think she was remembering some cartoon or something. I told her it was probably not going to happen, but she wasn't taking "no" for an answer. Here she is contemplating the catch--just before the big let down!
It was such a PERFECT day. We took our time, stopping about every 20 ft! to enjoy the views!

After the hike around the Mirror Lake, we drove down to Trial Lake. I think we all know it's not a Uinta trip without at least a drive by of Trial Lake! The lake is full, which was surprising after seeing it so low last year. It made it easy to find a great spot, right next to the action, to sit and enjoy. Here's Gavin perfecting his rock skipping skills. "Did you know Grandpa taught Dad how to skip a rock, Dad taught me how and now I'm teachin you!"
Somewhere, nestled in the middle of all those trees is Star Pond....
We threw rocks and explored dead fish shores for hours!

And finally, the end to a perfect day: A campfire, campfire roasted hot dogs (I did say it was impromptu) and S 'MORES!!

I have a couple of Collin Raye CDs :)
I only like a couple of his songs now. I can only handle Collin Raye's voice in small doses. I can't believe he still goes on tour. Maybe Bryan White is still out there too :)
Ha ha, we listen to "Little rock" like once a month in our daily meeting. Olivia and I would have loved to have been able to go up to the uintas with you. cute kids. miss you all.
